</div><div><div><br /></div><div>Yes I've been procrastinating but these days, I usually do. The shoes are by a brand called Airflex and the commando soles have worn out. </div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Oh yeah, the photos are from my recent trip to Singapore and the shoes are by Indonesian shoemaker Mario Minardi. They have a display at Takashimaya in Ngee Ann City and they also offer customisation of their shoes over there. Interesting, as we do not get that service over at their display in Isetan The Gardens or at Isetan KLCC. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">I suppose beggars can't be choosers. I haven't checked it out yet so don't take my word for it.</span></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Rigval Rezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13660839462626980082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2349802356865820599.post-86765991583784785492021-03-29T01:33:00.002+08:002021-04-05T11:30:58.156+08:00Watch Sales / Production for 2020 <div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br /></div>Here is the global watch sales and profit numbers or production for 2020 (forgot the source but from a watch website). Anyway, just a thought on Rolex and Longines it sold the most watches in 2020. <div><br /><div>We used to think that their watches, even their basic Datejust or Oyster Perpetual models, were rare items making them hold their value. <span><a name='more'></a></span></div><div><br /></div><div>But actually Rolex is like gold. A commodity rather than something super rare. It isn't as every year Rolex sells more watches than any other brand out there. </div></div><div><br /></div><div>Its more in the demand and, like diamonds (which isn't as rare as we think -it is actually more of great marketing than anything) , everyone buys it as status symbol (which is usually something of value). So, Rolex basically is a case of popularity and supply vs demand, and 800,000 watches a year is not sufficient. </div><div><br /></div><div>Of course you have the Submariner, Daytona, GMTmaster and other sports models that are the actual popular ones, but because everyone wants one, even the "lowly" Oyster is grabbed up. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br /></div><div>I can't complain because I am lucky enough to own one. Here is my 2005 14060m no-date Sub pictured beside my friend's newly acquired Omega Speedmaster Professional. </div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, as for Longines, I was actually surprised that globally the brand sells a lot of watches. Here in Malaysia, the brand seems to fly under the radar and even a friend and I said that the brand isn't as popular as even Tissot or Tag Heuer.</div><div><br /></div><div>It isn't the case from the numbers. I also forgot the fact that I remember reading a while ago that Longines sells in India and also China. So from there alone we know where the numbers come from. </div><div><br /></div><div>On the same note, I wouldn't mind having their Heritage diver. </div><div><br /></div><div>.... But its still way down on the wishlist of watches I want.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Above is an unboxing video of my most recent acquisition - a Montecristi Panama Hat from PanamaHatsDirect.com. This is a sub-fino grade according to Panama Hats Direct and it was shipped over from Ecuador direct via DHL (cost quite a bit but secure and actually quite fast). This is my first proper Panama hat and it would go in my rotation of hats. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This isn't a review, but just the unboxing and some facts about panama hats in general, like what is a Cuenca over a Montecristi. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I will do a review of it one of these days. But in the meanwhile, do watch this video if you want to.</span></div>

</div><br /></div>It has actually been a while since I wrote something in here. The reason is that I have not been in the mood to talk about what I've been doing or what I have tried out recently. Most likely because I feel that I have already said what needs to be said and there are not much else to say. And in terms of reviewing stuff I've bought, I have so much stuff that are merely repeats...like more watches or shoes or shirts...etc. Sometimes, you don't have the mood to write about another watch, shoes etc. It does get to you.<span><a name="more"></a></span><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br /></div><div>But since we've been on a coronavirus lockdown and just emerging out of it, I think that I should start writing abit. Not much, as I don't know whether i will be in the mood or not but today I am writing about the Swatch Scuba Libre which you see me wearing in the photos. </div><div><br /></div><div>I bought this quite cheap at under RM190 or so at the Genting Premium Outlet a couple of years ago. It is Swatch's idea of a 'divers'.watch. It has a unidirectional rotating 60 minute large rotating bezel like most divers watches, it has a legible clean looking dial with clear 12, 9, 6 numerals with a date wheel at the 3 o'clock marker, and it looks chunky with it being quite tall and around 42mm diameter or thereabouts. </div><div><br /></div><div>But it has flaws if you want to consider it as a proper divers watch. Its crown isn't a screw in type even though its rated to 20 bar or 200metres and the lume absolutely sucks. More like nothing when its dark. It is so slight that it may ne nonexistent. Lucky the hands and dial design makes it legible enough at dusk. </div><div><br /></div><div>But because of this, it fails as a diver. However as a beater watch, it works perfectly as you can just trash the heck out of it. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br /></div><div>Like any basic Swatch except the Irony series it is fully plastic with exception of the quartz movement and battery cover. The crystal is a plastic one too and like all Swatches, you cannot access the movement unless you cut or break it open. </div><div><br /></div><div>This main drawback of a Swatch is that of it breaks, you have to throw in it away. As a disposable under Rm200 watch, it would do fine. Do rough stuff with it. Go on trips overseas and it won't hurt the wallet if it gets trashed or lost. It's affordable....To some people that is.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I like the Scuba Libre in that it looks like it took design cues from some trad 1950s diver watch in terms of dial and beEp design with deliberate funkier font sizes and bezel. And everything is plastic of course. </div><div><br /></div><div>It looks like what a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms would look like if it were plastic....if there was such a thing. With its slightly curved bezel and all. Surprisingly, I think that this line isn't too popular as I can't seem to find many people wearing them or Swatch stores keeping them in stock.</div><div><br /></div><div>I think if I threw in a tan leather strap it would look its part. The only issie is that the Swatch only lug design requires a Swatch style strap. Since it's a beater watch, I am not too bothered to pimp it up. Yet.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br /></div><div>One reason is that since the pandemic lockdown period, this watch is the only one seeing a lot of wrist time when I go out. Since its all plastic it does not get affected with all the lathering of alcohol based hand sanitizers which eventually could do damage to my leather and NATO nylon strap which are usually affixed to my watches.</div><div><br /></div><div>As alcohol is corrosive, a beater watch is quite convinient to wear in times like these. So the Scuba Libre gets used often. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br /></div><div>Since there are less events or functions for me to attend, I usually go about in a polo t-shirt and cotton khakis. So not much dressing to really do and I do not go out much except to the grocers or for some other essential stuff. So this watch will suffice for now.</div><div><br /></div><div>I however must say that while this is quite good as it has an analogue dial, a Casio Dw5600 Series G-shock with all of its digital could be a better buy and a better beater watch. It is the only G-shock which I like. It was the one used by Keanu Reeves in Speed and while as disposable as this, its case, or bezel can be replaced of it is cracked. Actually you can access the quartz movement too....which is always a plus point as you could get the movement replaced if it stops working. </div><div><br /></div><div>I have one. But my daughter has taken a liking to it and wears it quite a bit. Must go get another.</div>Rigval Rezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13660839462626980082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2349802356865820599.post-62583838459557796842019-11-14T20:37:00.001+08:002019-11-14T20:37:40.431+08:00Video: The Land Rover Above and Beyond Drive Experience - Testing the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Velar<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hello again folks. I have been busy elsewhere. You guys know that I have a motoring website don't you? Motoring-Malaysia is where I do most of my writing these days and also a lot of videography. Maybe one of these days I will actually blog or write about how I have been producing my videos. It has been a one man operation to date and I usually record and edit everything on my own. Which is why I have been busy with this one featuring the Land Rover Above and Beyond Drive Experience with the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport and the 2019 Range Rover Velar.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Above and Beyond Tour is somewhat of a Land Rover global exercise where customers and invited guests as well as enthusiasts get to try out the Land Rover vehicles through an off-road obstacle course and it will also show you how a Land Rover actually performs. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In case any of you were wondering prior to watching the video, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Velar are very, very good off-road for what you can consider as luxury vehicles. Even though the SUVs I tried had road tyres or their factory fitted tyres, they still performed well in terms of basic, slightly muddy conditions. The trails that were used could be like someone's dirt path on some of their orchards or here in Malaysia, their 'dusun'. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When you have a Land Rover, or even the more luxurious Range Rover, take it off-road once or twice a year. You will get your money's worth, especially in the over half a million Ringgit Velar. That vehicle may cost a good RM150K at least over the RM370K (fully imported, crazy taxes) Discovery Sport, but after driving it, and experiencing its added refinement, you know that Land Rover put in more into the compact luxury SUV. Compact because it technically is so as the Range Rover Sport and even larger and stately Range Rover sits above it. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj985JNn16FkAqCOmDy_WzVnMllrwWACkkP2rPHpXxIvFsz0lClubCyTErRzUzma-ctxgQy4ATog9PafxQkweFgu0l_x7xQ5Argy0ISXReslP5aIaSp037vM8iN6bZv7K6IAjdR3_oNkzA/s1600/IMG_9208.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj985JNn16FkAqCOmDy_WzVnMllrwWACkkP2rPHpXxIvFsz0lClubCyTErRzUzma-ctxgQy4ATog9PafxQkweFgu0l_x7xQ5Argy0ISXReslP5aIaSp037vM8iN6bZv7K6IAjdR3_oNkzA/s640/IMG_9208.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But that being said, the Velar is very much the luxury vehicle it has set out to be. There is an understated elegance to the exterior styling that captures your attention. The interior is very modern, without any sense of an English country manor at all. It is modern inside and outside. It is also something which I would suggest those who can afford one to go and try out. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It isn't a German luxury SUV. It isn't a Swedish SUV. But it is premium and makes you feel good when you're sitting inside one. Watch the video folks! It is featured on Land Rover Asia Pacific's YouTube Channel. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have been going places you know. This is why I am busy.</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZmUNCXb1bkQQd-gsd2rSvWI2sVtRZGC-Z6iDlQYwOZEkLhkMK88inwO8rU2Ol6d8gjeikgAlM9OtNJpYDMSE0gtkCUtZmyldxht7gX2Sr0BAfNpdRZA9hFJMSTMOngqEnLhDsoxVEz3w/s1600/IMG20190827131701.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZmUNCXb1bkQQd-gsd2rSvWI2sVtRZGC-Z6iDlQYwOZEkLhkMK88inwO8rU2Ol6d8gjeikgAlM9OtNJpYDMSE0gtkCUtZmyldxht7gX2Sr0BAfNpdRZA9hFJMSTMOngqEnLhDsoxVEz3w/s640/IMG20190827131701.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I actually shot this video at a Starbucks in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. My friend, Azidi just got back from Bandung, Indonesia and he bought this pair of tasseled loafers from Fortuna Shoes there. If you guys have been following shoe forums here and there, you may have heard of them. PT Fortuna could be one of the best shoes ever produced by Indonesia in terms of quality and overseas exports.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />

<br /></div>
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Unfortunately, my friend decided to only bring one side. So this review is just on that one side. It still shows you the basic shoe. You can see the quality of the suede used, how the stacked leather heel looks and the insole too from the video. I must say that the shoe is quite impressive for something that cost 2.6million Rupiah. Or around RM800 after conversion. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ5MIC1h9U6pCAHVVSKANG2FRfsAwCYYw0HFidFSNjy-uY7-buPTZDJC4Em0vf75qyYmXT-67SNi1W0OzVNbw82KZU1WoTCipjOCVbawmnFCJG6WYFIdAW23ShpI-Sm7bXr_PjK6C_C5g/s1600/IMG20190827131536.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ5MIC1h9U6pCAHVVSKANG2FRfsAwCYYw0HFidFSNjy-uY7-buPTZDJC4Em0vf75qyYmXT-67SNi1W0OzVNbw82KZU1WoTCipjOCVbawmnFCJG6WYFIdAW23ShpI-Sm7bXr_PjK6C_C5g/s640/IMG20190827131536.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It seems to have the same standards as a pair of Loake 1880s. Or very slightly beneath it. But I think the insole seems to have more cushion than the pair of 1880s I own. So it could be more comfortable. The shape of the uppers is also quite unique. And yes, this is actually a whole cut loafer. Fortuna shoes have the talent and skill in doing so.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">My friend was torn between this and another, over 3million Rupiah pair of patina-ed wholecuts. The issue was that he mostly does not need to dress formally for work and the pair of loafers would make more sense. He also has a pair of wholecuts he has not worn yet so another pair, in red or mahogany could also be what held him back ultimately. But he knows that Fortuna Shoes is just a short flight away. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I must say that the shoes by Fortuna, aka Jalan Sriwijaya if sold in Isetan Tokyo are great value for money. They offer a lot of shoe for the price and if you do live in Southeast Asia or even Asia, heading down to Bandung makes a lot of sense. Although Ho Chi Minh offers a whole lot more in terms of shoes. So the competition is stiff.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Do note that Fortuna has finally decided to collaborate with an artisan and they have now added patina handiwork to their shoes if you want. Follow them on their Instagram to take a look actually - Search for Fortuna Shoes Official over on Instagram. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">As for the single shoe instead of a pair....well, better a review than none at all, right?</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b>....After</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">You can see from the pics above </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">the shoe is repaired. It was done by the cobbler over at the Atria in Petaling Jaya. At the LG carpark level escalator near the Village Grocer side. You can see that they've changed the rubber sole to a leather sole and stacked heel. They cobbler basically got the sole stitched to the uppers and now, from a stuck on constructed shoe (glued) to a blake stitched one with a leather sole. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So the shoe has basically become slightly better in some ways. You can actually get the sole stitched to the upper most of the time provided the cobbler has proper machinery. Here in Malaysia, I've mentioned previously that the cobblers here do not have Goodyear Welting machines. Nearest could be Singapore for most of us and I've also heard of a cobbler over in Kuching, Sarawak that has such a machine. Quite tough for most, which is why I've said that I prefer blake stitched shoes here. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But these days, as I have built up a sizeable collection of shoes, I think it actually takes years for me to wear out any of them. Even if I did wear them out I will get a Topy piece of rubber half sole when they're half worn and they will then last years. So when I get a pair half soled with the half sole, I just replace the half sole later. But at this moment, due to rotating my shoes, I haven't resoled any pairs in the past two years or more (I think) with the exception of this pair you see here.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">You can see my ruined shoe is now perfectly wearable. Wore them today to an event and it was comfortable. I wore them without socks and I suffered no blisters or any sort of issues. It was comfortable. It may be slightly crude looking in terms of total finishing due to the lack of more expensive soles on stock (these days not many ask for a full leather sole according to the cobbler so less people keep stock) but from afar, I think they're more than adequate. And I get another pair of shoes to add back to my rotation.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Oh, I nearly forgot. They cost me RM350 to get these pair done. I think its worth it. Of course, I have to state again that sometimes, it could be better to just buy shoes with leather soles as they will never disintegrate over time. Do read the previous article linked above for a clearer picture folks.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have been neglecting this blog a little. Well, maybe not a little but a whole lot. So let me make it up to you folks who occasionally pop by to see what's new with the blog and what have I been up to aside from doing lots of automotive related things. Some of you may notice that I have been extremely active over at my motoring page - motoring-malaysia.blogspot.com. Anyway, I have made this video review, my first ever shoe review - A Comparison between a pair of Santoni and Magnanni double monk strap shoes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/r1Q2YntMuuQ/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/r1Q2YntMuuQ?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I think it is quite a decent comparison. One has been well worn, and one is very new. Just fresh out of the box. Both are double monk strap shoes and it has been said that Magnanni emulates Santoni in many ways. You can see it in the video and what I think about both of these shoes.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Personally, both are interesting. One is actually on a higher level. Not in the sense of just its price, but its overall execution. The patina, and finishing touches are just different and raise the bar from the other. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So the question now to you folks out there is, should I keep doing stuff like this now? If you have seen the video, do tell me what would you like me to review. If I have the time, it could be done you know. Or I could explain to you guys more about it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Watch the video and tell me what you think.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Jpz5s7YLJOZp6idJuU3w3oa6qkSNkyqAO14TViId2CMPHrZW14vmkNevlmGhEfDSITXJUt2yCd3o7ACBw4ZrbLm9svMISKoLqlv_i4Q8HJRVTD8tsB8hiIirssBAk2LgA_QcOhSb0qg/s1600/IMG20190103125656.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Jpz5s7YLJOZp6idJuU3w3oa6qkSNkyqAO14TViId2CMPHrZW14vmkNevlmGhEfDSITXJUt2yCd3o7ACBw4ZrbLm9svMISKoLqlv_i4Q8HJRVTD8tsB8hiIirssBAk2LgA_QcOhSb0qg/s640/IMG20190103125656.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is my first post of 2019 here and let's start on something with something that this blog is well known for...Shoes. This time, let me remind you why glued shoes or stuck on construction shoes aren't really worth your time and </span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">/ or money.... especially if you don't have much of either.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6-4qp1sLuunX2hv0fLXzZUWw_UcXprHjSyk6JgUCl8pKYpNc2HzFNKflWbYnkMvitETDjADxt7F-e9IUgvxjJ37LR4kRZ-sKtNFWzbOKuLLECk9dl1DQXP8qwVLB9NQdCifGj933FCZk/s1600/IMG20190103125642.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6-4qp1sLuunX2hv0fLXzZUWw_UcXprHjSyk6JgUCl8pKYpNc2HzFNKflWbYnkMvitETDjADxt7F-e9IUgvxjJ37LR4kRZ-sKtNFWzbOKuLLECk9dl1DQXP8qwVLB9NQdCifGj933FCZk/s640/IMG20190103125642.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is another of my Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. This isn't one of those higher up Lavorazione Originale or Tramezza series but one of the entry level ones with the rubber, glued on soles. They are nice and flexible when worn but as you can see, after five years of occasional wear, the rubber has perished on one of the shoes. The other side seems to be going strong. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Anyway, this is down to the fact that the sole on this Ferragamo is most likely a rubber blend and stuck to the upper with adhesive. So after a while, the rubber/poly mix dries out and cracked. On one side only. Which makes no difference since I have two feet and need both sides to wear it. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIuvHqJ8lNB6V0TaqzyeK7fQECZcU_msikVEkNlV5CX610AXGmq62YVN4hWVqqH6du0zA5H1_M8Emhti2yIfo8yqqmjarXOndpRuQ5yK7trXoVEQQbgyJGpmaGkYelLS3NaUmDwJ2qfr4/s1600/IMG20190103125833.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIuvHqJ8lNB6V0TaqzyeK7fQECZcU_msikVEkNlV5CX610AXGmq62YVN4hWVqqH6du0zA5H1_M8Emhti2yIfo8yqqmjarXOndpRuQ5yK7trXoVEQQbgyJGpmaGkYelLS3NaUmDwJ2qfr4/s640/IMG20190103125833.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I've removed most of the sole and you now can see that I essentially paid a lot of money for not much shoe. Well, I actually didn't pay much for the shoe as I bought it at the Ferragamo factory outlet store at the Johor Premium Outlet for about RM750 or so five or so years ago. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Well, RM750 could have gotten me a nice pair of Indonesian made blake stitched Mario Minrdi shoes with som hand patina or a nice pair of Fugashin Saigon blake stiched shoes for the same amount of money but I decided to get the somewhat flashy pair anyway. Why you may ask? I just liked the apron toe and horsebit buckle design as well as the tan colour of the shoe.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Then again, I also knew for a fact that as with my other pair of Ferragamo penny loafers which I have blogged about in here I could get these pair repaired once the sole dies on me. So...after so many years, it has obviously done so and it will eventually be sent to the cobbler to get a resole.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It isn't that hard to turn it into a blake stitched shoe after this. As you can see the leather upper has more than enough leather pulled around the insole, so there is enough leather to attach a leather sole to it and get the whole thing stitched together. This is like the other pair of Ferragamo I had written about. To me it is nothing to shout or be sad about as I am aware or what comes next. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Of course, I have many, many pairs of shoes. The repairs can actually wait. I do not need to get it done straight away and will be saving some of my Ringgit for now. This story would be all different if this were my only pair of shoes of course.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So eventually, when they get repaired, it will be a nice leather sole with a blake stitched sole. Better than before and good for another five years or more. I know many will usually throw away their shoes but I always advocate buying stuff that last years or decades.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So don't do what I did here if you do not intend to spend RM300 or so on getting a glued shoe fixed. I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought this pair. I only bought it because I thought it was a reasonably priced shoe which can be fixed later on. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Of course, I am sometimes not a reasonable man you know. So don't follow what I did here. Only do so if you have the means of saving such a shoe and are willing to get it fixed for a certain price. At least this pair will still be servicible.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The most sensible advice I can give here is if you have a choice, buy a shoe with better construction. Or own many pair until you just don't care. Or you have the time to send shoes for repair.</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0Bfxt5Kq8tURDj01fX-fDpssMpmiFDaNokB5U557tUzB1Q_Gx5YDdD9v_jLSMmdMUaOhKZLm179hPC453zOgLPD0EgyjfbwWum4HSdKW_Gt7pQT4BJ04_jk2_dQUP9DotVAfY4sljMI/s1600/IMG_20180121_130607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0Bfxt5Kq8tURDj01fX-fDpssMpmiFDaNokB5U557tUzB1Q_Gx5YDdD9v_jLSMmdMUaOhKZLm179hPC453zOgLPD0EgyjfbwWum4HSdKW_Gt7pQT4BJ04_jk2_dQUP9DotVAfY4sljMI/s320/IMG_20180121_130607.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>After years</b> of trying out different types of jackets in different types of fabric I am of the opinion that if you want to wear a sports jacket or a suit here in humid, warm, hot, you name it, everything uncomfortable in a jacket situation Malaysia it has to be unlined. Even the sleeves if possible or a very, very thin piece of lining - thinner than the usual Bemberg lining offerings.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6qu3BudqKTzjR3REaMnRsFJL0IHJdMrh9Hp1nf9Z1anbuKPfCdZGqC2ZUhw4r8k_avCsDnq3bdAMuZqbp46R_3U78C3JpnI4B0tl0MlCMEG1i1Ivnaepe1QsShhk_mkawgLUIxCulnTo/s1600/mememememe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="367" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6qu3BudqKTzjR3REaMnRsFJL0IHJdMrh9Hp1nf9Z1anbuKPfCdZGqC2ZUhw4r8k_avCsDnq3bdAMuZqbp46R_3U78C3JpnI4B0tl0MlCMEG1i1Ivnaepe1QsShhk_mkawgLUIxCulnTo/s400/mememememe.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As for the fabric itself. I now think that the best fabric which allows for some air to circulate around you is the one in a hopsack weave or pattern. This is a large open weave which is like a gunny sack (the ones you put potatoes in). What this does is allow the air to circulate through it and if made from a fabric like cotton, wool or linen (which is the best), it would make wearing a sports jacket or a suit jacket wearable in temperatures over 30degrees celcius for short lengths of time. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is like stepping out from your car to the lobby or hanging out with some friends who still like a puff or two outside the comforts of air-conditioning. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When you pair it with a very light cotton dress shirt (cotton voile comes to mind), it actually feels as good as the chap wearing just a dress shirt in a thicker material.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYu3kU4Atb3_dVN7O-XV-BCHMZGkWhPess12-jmNsWgwR7nyK7FS_7L2q_sioT4jhfeyFZF3Q_j72aSsXyUpa4kKL6J4uh-rSNa6ODorBsFH5TLGYRxpJX7L27J-EAuHX9jq_DQYouYp8/s1600/IMG_20180121_130513.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYu3kU4Atb3_dVN7O-XV-BCHMZGkWhPess12-jmNsWgwR7nyK7FS_7L2q_sioT4jhfeyFZF3Q_j72aSsXyUpa4kKL6J4uh-rSNa6ODorBsFH5TLGYRxpJX7L27J-EAuHX9jq_DQYouYp8/s640/IMG_20180121_130513.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I mean, check out how hopsack looks when facing bright light but when you wear it, it looks normal. You can't beat hopsack for being airy. Furthermore, with its heavier texture, it actually drapes better as the weight from the fabric allows the jacket to hang nicely (if it fits you well in the first place). And when you wear it, it isn't transparent.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I will eventually type out something more on a total warm weather look. But these days, I am so, so busy with other activities.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The blazer/sports jacket is a Massimo Dutti by the way. Two button, double vented, self lined, super thin sleeve lining, working buttonholes in a cotton-linen blend. Because of its lightweight unstructured design with the warm weather fabric of choice, it could be the sports jacket I love wearing the most. </span></div>

We were in the Cameron Highlands Resort the night after the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Rally held for the members of the automotive media in conjunction with the Malaysian launch of the <a href="https://motoring-malaysia.blogspot.com/2018/11/the-new-facelifted-very-much-improved.html" target="_blank">newly facelifted W205 Mercedes-Benz C-Clas</a>s here.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am seen seated here with Mr Mark Raine, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (left) and Zachary Ho, of Autoworld.com.my (right). Both are great people to carry on a conversation with and Mark is also a snappy dresser too. Being a non-formal motoring event, he is actually one of the better dressed ones as most automotive journalists usually dress like how Zachary dresses. Even in Cameron Highlands.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am seen wearing something which I usually never wear in Kuala Lumpur. This is a faux tweed herringbone patterned cotton linen sport jacket by Polo Ralph Lauren. It is unlined at the back with the sleeves lined in some viscose and the front is lined in cotton. It is single vented at the rear and it still feels warm when I use it here in the highlands. The button-down shirt is by Brooks Brothers and I had a plain white linen pocket square to round things off by the way....</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The temperature was between 16 to 18 degrees supposedly at the Cameron Highlands Resort where we stayed, but it felt like 22-25deg or something like that. So whilst I wouldn't recommend cotton-linen for winter, this should be suitable for spring, autumn and maybe as one of the layers during colder months. Faux tweed it may be, but it still feels warm to me.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzCNHs69TdkCfotA0dh2KK_3kL69_MnRn_yGiqUjcqtJgSC647HlF065rvElbezDAs0uUdlq1romM-vn9tCJPNgG3f7skAYYGLxmDvp7R84PS1GHwju23saiB95vSkHl5O6azUmGXCZkY/s1600/20181101_C1555.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzCNHs69TdkCfotA0dh2KK_3kL69_MnRn_yGiqUjcqtJgSC647HlF065rvElbezDAs0uUdlq1romM-vn9tCJPNgG3f7skAYYGLxmDvp7R84PS1GHwju23saiB95vSkHl5O6azUmGXCZkY/s640/20181101_C1555.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>Of course...if you compare with most of the people on the trip...I am a little (over) dressed you can see here. Loved the decor of the hotel though....</i></span><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I do hope that people would stop major land clearing in Cameron. Three decades ago, you would have condensation coming out from your mouth when you breathe through it. Not anymore. Maybe in really colder months but usually this does not happen anymore.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">As for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class? The facelift has made this premium compact sedan the best in its class according to Yours Truly. Why? It is more refined in the base C200 Avantgarde variant, handles a tad bit better too and is more fuel friendly. The cabin in truly quiet and it rides well. Better than the earlier C200 AMG line sold here.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The Mercedes-Benz C300 AMG Line <i>(the one seen above here beside from C43 AMG variants</i>) on the other had was massively quick, yet supremely supply over crests and bumps. So much faster through everywhere compared to the C200. It rides sportily but it isn't sportscar firm. It has air suspension which gives you the best of both worlds. The handling down a highland road is superb. You actually get comfort, refinement and you also get ride & handling to boot! No other car is as complete as this in its low RM300K price range. Even its other German competitors lack its luxurious interior feel. It is about perceived luxury and once you step inside it no other car comes close in terms of what you are paying.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCH85e_YZ7MXsMXr32ZLt1QzYDQBOxKWjx6OmHhuWfPcaUXLPdzV5_n1XEhK2-GYodNIjcDHcHqQyTyyyvt8bO2N8bFOV_rZ14L0Rb8sm6BLv-iqZ3igTWSuwKa-1tdRGXE8S_grqHpKw/s1600/_A7M6069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCH85e_YZ7MXsMXr32ZLt1QzYDQBOxKWjx6OmHhuWfPcaUXLPdzV5_n1XEhK2-GYodNIjcDHcHqQyTyyyvt8bO2N8bFOV_rZ14L0Rb8sm6BLv-iqZ3igTWSuwKa-1tdRGXE8S_grqHpKw/s400/_A7M6069.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Handling? Almost as close (<i>ridiculously close</i>) to the best in this class for the C300 (The C200 is just most refined, but does not drive like a driver's car) but that exterior, interior (<i>the best use of higher end materials so that the cabin is tactile to touch, the opulent looking design and the high equipment levels</i>) and the badge makes it the overall premium compact sedan to have. It's so good that I actually yearn for it. My bank account still won't let me have one for now of course!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>MINI Malaysia</b> will be presenting a new Capsule Collection headlined as the MINI FASHION FIELD NOTES at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2018 (KLFW 2018). This is the first time ever MINI Malaysia is doing so and this is a somewhat of a continuation of sorts for their recent feature at the Pitto Uomo 94 men's fashion and lifestyle fair held recently (<i>pic below</i>).</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The collection is a unique collaboration between MINI and The Woolmark Company. Woolmark is one of the world’s most recognised and respected brands in textile and fashion - a sign of quality wool, and sometimes more than just that. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The innovation and design ethos of both brands weave together emotionally intelligent designs that appeal to the core of the “Urban Traveller” – an explorer who embraces travel as a personal crossing of borders, from one feeling, one culture, one perspective to another.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The theme of the exhibition is called "Transcending Borders”. The 16-piece limited-run collection combines </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">the creative forces of four names in the international fashion scene – Liam Hodges (United Kingdom), Staffonly (China), PH5 (USA) and Rike Feurstein (Germany). The up-and- coming designers drew on their individual travel experiences in diverse cities around the world, translating personal memories into fashion pieces using the finest Merino wool.</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQnJ3TrDwMAKQlj0nsI3DrwjI2HcPHIMlCUCFqSFKCvGmtdvwx_gL9EtuNYn9KgNDAhczIg1MRZQgaTshPpCNvGp3qzrn4nRnMkA8eJ2KJgrCSrUrRa7yJ994QaHDpwKX9gK4v8UpWovM/s1600/IMG_0355+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1499" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQnJ3TrDwMAKQlj0nsI3DrwjI2HcPHIMlCUCFqSFKCvGmtdvwx_gL9EtuNYn9KgNDAhczIg1MRZQgaTshPpCNvGp3qzrn4nRnMkA8eJ2KJgrCSrUrRa7yJ994QaHDpwKX9gK4v8UpWovM/s640/IMG_0355+-+Copy.JPG" width="598" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b>This is a photograph of Yours Truly taken months ago.</b> Basically nothing from here is Made to Measure (MTM) or Bespoke. The button down cotton shirt is by Brooks Brothers (non-iron, made in Malaysia stuff - I wear it because it helps the local factories, because I don't have any problems wearing non-iron and it does make my life easier), the flax-linen sports jacket by Massimo Dutti and the trousers, by Marks & Spencer (Collezione line with some Italian cotton fabric and surprisingly high waisted by today's standards). Oh, the pocket square is some Italian branded cotton one which I forgot the make.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So yes, I love the fit and finish here. Nothing is tight fitting and it is supremely comfortable to wear in this in the hot and humid Malaysian weather. Wearing nicely fitting clothing with some give always allows air to circulate and makes it easier to stretch without worrying whether the seams will burst out (especially since I am a little on the large side). The cotton, linen mix here also keeps things extremely cool. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The double vented, two button jacket is of course, a hopsack type of linen-flax fabric, unlined with only the sleeves having lining. Slightly padded at the shoulders but its all softly tailored. This is one of my favourite pieces actually. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The shoes are by Fratelli Rossetti. Another brand which I actually fancy and underrated in my opinion. The belt, I think is something old. Fifteen years at least.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So yes, head to toe in ready to wear with nothing specially commissioned for me. Of course, the shirt sleeves, jacket sleeves and trouser leg has been altered to fit. The trousers were bought longer so I cuffed them with a very slightly break - did it myself. It does make the trousers hang better. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It is all about the fit actually. And time to spend at the alterations tailor. </span></div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b><i>Yes.</i></b> It's been a while since I last posted anything in here.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So here is something about my <a href="https://amalaysianman.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-one-good-affordable-pen-parker.html" target="_blank">favourite ballpoint pen</a> - the Parker Jotter</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">From the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/parkerpens/" target="_blank">Parker Pens Facebook Page</a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">"<i>The Jotter ballpoint is Parker’s longest running pen in production since its introduction in 1954. The company conducted nine years of research and development before launching it, and decided not to endorse it with an arrow clip until it had been proven successful. Nearly 65 years later, total production is approaching the 1 billion mark.</i>"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I will try to post on a regular basis here. But it usually is a problem when you are extremely busy doing a whole lot of things all of the time.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My favourite pair of knock about shoes, a <a href="https://amalaysianman.blogspot.my/2014/08/boat-shoes-flip-flops-for-gentleman.html" target="_blank">pair of Marks & Spencer boat shoes</a> has finally worn down a fair bit. The leather upper part has some cracks at the sides of the vamp, and the sole has started to disintegrate. The non-stick rubber sole has started cracking on the right shoe and water actually enters if you step into a puddle. </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I have another pair of cheap BATA boat shoes, but the old pair seems to be a little bit more comfy to me. It is the insole of the shoe. The M&S one (which I believe was made in Thailand, <i>above & below</i>) is quite comfortable. I need to get a better insole for the shoe before I wear them often. But the thing is, I managed to buy another pair of shoes for me to wear.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAJxf_ZdNhnwqXDn8FSY8kdMdRxB19bgTi_hEMDlu_z4oJIoBHYbPWTd28aXv2f2MekMBBM9lZZgUWmTkcbBOnq6RSjgXNbHWmOhWxBtuMWaY0PQaxOKE9ujAXBLO_3RdpHiDwL2OslVs/s1600/marks+spencer+boat+shoes+amalaysianman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAJxf_ZdNhnwqXDn8FSY8kdMdRxB19bgTi_hEMDlu_z4oJIoBHYbPWTd28aXv2f2MekMBBM9lZZgUWmTkcbBOnq6RSjgXNbHWmOhWxBtuMWaY0PQaxOKE9ujAXBLO_3RdpHiDwL2OslVs/s640/marks+spencer+boat+shoes+amalaysianman.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The shoes in the main picture and down below are Airflex branded Blucher Mocs. I bought them when they were on sale in Perth, Australia sometime last December. They cost me AUD60 which is a heck of a lot cheaper than the RM329 or so that I paid for the pair of M&S boat shoes. As cheap as the Bata boat shoes actually after conversion. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Blucher mocs may look the same as boat shoes. The construction is the same moccasin style construction that you see in boat shoes or camp mocs. The differences between these three are actually quite a few. They look so darn similar but they are different.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Boat shoes usually come with a non-slip, non staining rubberised sole. The sole has no knobs or deep grooves so that the sole does not ruin the wooden decks of boats. It also has two eyelets for the laces and the laces are (usually - unless you buy some cheaper ones) connected all around the collar of the shoe (where you put your feet in). You should also never, ever wear boat shoes with socks. The reason is very nautical also. Being boat shoes, you may get them wet when you're sailing. Wearing socks with them is usually a no no unless you like wearing soggy pieces of fabric on your feet. This usually means that Boat shoes are actually at the very most three season shoes. Keep the boat shoes for warmer weather. Not winter. This is how it is. I'm not saying its wrong to wear socks with boat shoes, but if you want to break the rules, know them first.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Camp Mocs have a more knobby sole. There are visible grooves and cuts to the sole and it is suited for use around the camp site. This is the shoe for knocking about at the campsite after a hard day of trekking where your hiking boots are taken off and put aside to dry whilst you slip on a pair of camp mocs to laze around the camp. They usually have a single eyelet for the lace and is quite similar to the driving shoe (with the laces) if you want some comparison in terms of how it looks. Of course, take aside the very knobby rubber bits of a driving shoe and put on a more traditional sole with some grooved pattern and you have a camp moc. You can wear socks with these shoes.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9VVjCaG8cqUxZiC_Yl4Yhh_PQgURftHHzEr_4dOK9UxeIK1ptuclc9f8z3hsE8KWvog3vE1mAmMbw6Jy7NbJh0RWhAhxUmraX7lYwM7Cl5D7kYFasmBzYhBngyMqWaZBTNkRNIizoEp4/s1600/blucher+mocs+2+amalaysianman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1440" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9VVjCaG8cqUxZiC_Yl4Yhh_PQgURftHHzEr_4dOK9UxeIK1ptuclc9f8z3hsE8KWvog3vE1mAmMbw6Jy7NbJh0RWhAhxUmraX7lYwM7Cl5D7kYFasmBzYhBngyMqWaZBTNkRNIizoEp4/s640/blucher+mocs+2+amalaysianman.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The Blucher moc is the most macho of them all. It comes with usually three or four eyelets for the laces (usually leather and not fabric - just like the two shoes above). These lend an air of ruggedness to them and a bit more control as the laces may allow a more snug fit. The sole usually gets a same type as a camp moc or like the ones I have, with a heavy duty commando sole. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">These are exactly like the super expensive Made In the Dominican Republic ones sold by Timberland. The leather here feels a little bit thinner and it also looks a tad bit more treated than the Timberland ones but the main thing is that they do not cost RM699 a pair. Secondly, I treat these shoes as beater or knock about shoes where I wear them around the neighbourhood and almost never anywhere else. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So they fit the bill as my pair or pairs of super casual shoes that I wear to go grocery shopping, sending the kid to school or even going to the neighbourhood mall. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I also have to note that it is actually quite hard to find affordable blucher mocs here. I can find cheap boat shoes easily but never blucher mocs. If you earn Australian dollars, this is actually super cheap at AUD60. It was on sale at 50% off and of course, it felt very reasonable for a pair of casual leather shoes. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">GALERI PETRONAS, a venue run by Malaysian oil & gas company PETRONAS, meant for Malaysian and international artists to showcase their works and inspire thought-leadership had recently launched a publication to complement its ongoing ALEGORI Exhibition. The book, which showcasesContemporary Art Expressions from Malay Manuscripts exhibition which explores the concepts and metaphorical thinking derived from classical Malay manuscripts.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">ALEGORI, the book, examines the ancient laws and practices entrenched behind strong values and culture that remain prevalent in society’s current pursuit of modern civilization. It is a collection of essays from Malay manuscripts that reflect the original thinking and wisdom of the Malay society (lest we forget and suddenly become some other race as what seems to be happening these days - how stupid some of us are).</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcm4Cdz6Azey3_tFsSqxxqbwtUWpnq6bfO9tYpBvPDrUict2joKcraXtJir23roNMPwqix0VttTyvU8oc4lQFIso9xbR555MoS9YrKI9yPvBStYaAXd798D06muHPaWsKer2L7ltfUqLA/s1600/IMG_20180120_131616.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="911" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcm4Cdz6Azey3_tFsSqxxqbwtUWpnq6bfO9tYpBvPDrUict2joKcraXtJir23roNMPwqix0VttTyvU8oc4lQFIso9xbR555MoS9YrKI9yPvBStYaAXd798D06muHPaWsKer2L7ltfUqLA/s640/IMG_20180120_131616.jpg" width="364" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I usually overdress to media launch events. When I say I overdress it's because almost no one, with the exception of the hosts or a few others would even throw on a sports jacket. I usually come dress like this.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I wore a linen sports jacket by Tagliatore, </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">tailored wool & linen dress trousers by my tailor, a ready to wear light blue dress shirt and a pair of Fratelli Rossetti unlined suede fringe slippers. No socks.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">No goodyear welted shoes as felt I wanted something super light on my feet that day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Anyway, let's take the opportunity to look at how larger men should dress. I will not deal with the style or construction of the jacket or what materials to wear and other tricks to wear in warm weather but I would just like to concentrate on how a larger, more stocky man should dress.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Let's start with the jacket. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Do NOT wear too short of a jacket. The skirt should cover your rear end (bum, buttocks). The front should reach the crotch area if viewed from the front or the whole silhouette should be a nice 50:50 split between your torso and your legs. The length allows you to 'hide' unflattering bits if you know what I mean. Unlike Kim Kardashian, too big a derriere on a man isn't something flattering. Actually, if you have a flat rear end, that jacket could also help cover it up.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">So this brings me to the fit of a jacket. Since a jacket helps flatter the body of its user, it should fit well. There should be no pulling at the button point. No 'X' should fully form all of the time. It should also be tailored to fit but not make it tight until you cannot feel comfortable moving your arms around. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">But the sleeves should be cut slim so that there is no sign of extra bulk in the arms. It actually helps if it is tailored closer to the arm especially from the elbow downwards. You can see in the photo above that the jacket arms fit closely but not snug till you cannot be comfortable.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">This Tagliatore jacket has a nice cut to it. It is cut with a lot of drape (this is a tailoring term to it). This drape cut actually nips the waist in (at the button point) but the chest actually swells out. It makes me look like a person with a smaller waist and a huge chest. Couple this with the classic Italian extended shoulder line I look like an Olympian body builder wearing a jacket. So the jacket actually helps and accentuates the look. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Jacket lapels with a high notch also help. It keeps the eye focused higher up and makes you look slightly taller rather than just broader. The lapel width is also important as too small a lapel would make the total look a little less balanced that with a larger lapel. It balances off the large chest area and keeps proportions.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">So - Slim Sleeves, Slightly extended shoulders, a slightly larger cut on the chest area, and a jacket skirt that actually covers the butt is what a larger man needs. But the jacket must fit without any extra fabric. Large swathes of fabric on a large man makes the man look larger rather than smaller. This also is quite similar to shirts and formal batik shirts. Make sure the length is correct and make sure it isn't too tight or especially too loose. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">As for trousers, taper the ends. To cuff or not to cuff isn't an issue. You have to make your silhouette as neat as possible. No excess fabric at the end of the trousers - no pudding at your feet. Alter them so that they drop with just a half a break in the crease of your trousers or have no break at all. You want the line clean as possible and it also has to be tapered at the end. You cannot have a large opening just because your thighs are huge. Your thighs may be large, so only that area should be at large as necessary (but of course, not more). The part at your ankle is small. Obviously and the opening should be tapered down from the waist, thigh and knee area downwards. Trousers should be cut so that it just falls right to the cuffs without any bumps or extra lines on it. It keeps a person's shape clean and neat. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Also the waistband sits close or at the natural waist. At the belly button. It makes the legs look longer than they are. Highwaisted trousers help with proportions too.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Another great tip when wearing a dress shirt is that if you are not wearing a tie, make sure that the shirt collars actually frame your face. Do not let it lay flat over the lapels of the jacket. When it is straight up like in the photo above, it actually keeps a nice vertical line and frames the sides of your face. You do not add to the width of your features with this. In fact, these days if I wear a collared shirt without a tie, I usually make sure it is one with a button down collar so that it sits upright and not lay flat on the shoulder blades. Makes things neater too.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Its all about proportions actually. Once everything sits in a nice proportionate silhouette, a larger man would look better. And lastly, if you are larger than life in terms of size, it is always good to put on an impression that you are well groomed. People with take more notice of you actually. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">By the way, I was wearing this outfit at the <a href="https://motoring-malaysia.blogspot.my/2018/01/the-all-new-volvo-xc60-is-launched-xc60.html" target="_blank">Malaysian launch of the new Volvo XC60</a>. Two variants are available - the XC60 T8 Twin Engine Plug In Hybrid and the T5 Petrol. The T8 is very impressive and just as premium looking inside and outside as its larger sibling, the XC90. Massive amount of horsepower too - about 407Hp AND a whopping 640Nm torque. Prices start at RM298,888+++.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">TWL are bringing back Hong Kong Based tailoring setup, Prologue. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">TWL or also known as The Working Lads are a group of three Malaysian chaps who are very enthusiastic about tailored garments. Between the three of them, whom I have never personally met as yet (<i>only via email</i>), they have tried to search for the best value tailor there is in Kuala Lumpur. </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">These chaps have also ventured to try out Hong Kong and Australian based tailors. However, according to them, they still feel that the things they want in a suit is still lacking due to various reasons such as construction method as well as the most common aspect of bespoke tailoring - the high entry costs. Hence, they have said that they found that Prologue would be able to meet that requirement and even brought them down here for an innaugural trunk show early last October 2017.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I was emailed by one of them to check out the people at Prologue then but I wasn't available then. This time, they have another trunk show coming up on the 6 to 7 January at </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /><br />Capri by Fraser, Bangsar South. <br /><br />Appointment Schedule:<br /><br />Saturday (6 January): 10.00am - 7.00pm<br /><br />Sunday (7 January): 10.00am - 12.00pm<br /><br />Venue: <br /><br />Capri by Fraser, Bangsar South<br /><br />To schedule and appointment, please email twlads.co@gmail.com or follow them on Instagram (@twlads.co) for updates<br /><br /> </span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5pdSOTUzT6n-TWn55uuBQMcF7K2glZFX8zm1fR4-uBYOvf8Q6jCu-fWfZjywApyrckKa3CjnAN4zc-Qgh90YnvQWFg1okzNWkrNiXXfvabG0tm_NkiuYHfxQetJ9k9aJsNPmk2mKSsRs/s1600/prolog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="599" data-original-width="576" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5pdSOTUzT6n-TWn55uuBQMcF7K2glZFX8zm1fR4-uBYOvf8Q6jCu-fWfZjywApyrckKa3CjnAN4zc-Qgh90YnvQWFg1okzNWkrNiXXfvabG0tm_NkiuYHfxQetJ9k9aJsNPmk2mKSsRs/s400/prolog.jpg" width="383" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">As for Prologue, who seem to be Hong Kong based. This setup was founded by three gentlemen (what a coincidence) Chris, Jerry and Maslow, who seem to know their stuff (<i>I basically follow Maslow on Instagram</i>). According to what I've read, they've tried the best there is in Europe and Asia. With the knowledege from commissioning their own tailored pieces, they offer semi-bespoke which combines the best of MTM and bespoke.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">All of Prologue’s jackets and suits feature full floating canvasses, slightly extended unpadded shoulders, backward slanting shoulder seams, hand padded lapels and hand finishing (bar-tacks securing all flaps and vents, buttonholes sewn with buttonhole twist, Milanese teardrop lapel buttonhole, to name a few). Trousers are typically high waisted and pleated with handsewn pick stitching on the fly, outseams and pocket edges, and finished with handsewn bar-tacks at all stress points (pocket edges, darts and pleats). </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Quite like the ones offered by Italian bespoke tailors Liverano in many ways (according to my eyes, that is).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I received this email only today and the show is only a few days away. So if any are interested, do email them at the address above.</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1m20Kk8gjWwsji8Jbj-unU2nBCgmTu4_4R_LoJzyFkp9MH8zlAIPWZzaSM3X8mlvib4MHOG8E92FnliIRSRT0KXLaJP1wniEaLI9Zjs1O-yPT0mjPMe4Cz2VvVn2wVyKPSNWwWpou-CY/s1600/IMG-20171226-WA0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="992" data-original-width="744" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1m20Kk8gjWwsji8Jbj-unU2nBCgmTu4_4R_LoJzyFkp9MH8zlAIPWZzaSM3X8mlvib4MHOG8E92FnliIRSRT0KXLaJP1wniEaLI9Zjs1O-yPT0mjPMe4Cz2VvVn2wVyKPSNWwWpou-CY/s640/IMG-20171226-WA0001.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>A close friend of mine was in Ho Chi Minh City</b> recently and he actually bought two pairs of Fugashin Saigon shoes. From these two photos of the shoes he sent me I must say that they are impressive.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">One is their regular Goodyear Welted line - the wholecut lace ups in Blue patina with a bevelled waist and a slightly angled heel. Much like the Ghillie derbies which I own. Quality looks awesome.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnRkOUay1-02rk-Onk5qsl_iMlAp6gdzUTRZx0ziKXLoWZL5JxUGxRCXL4BmSBQLLuhiH6GTZ06fURN1VrgkP8XtGduQ0J75u1VscCJPcJ0k5bE3za5lPMMDoco9WyCOftBphBzdgdgoA/s1600/IMG-20171226-WA0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="744" data-original-width="992" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnRkOUay1-02rk-Onk5qsl_iMlAp6gdzUTRZx0ziKXLoWZL5JxUGxRCXL4BmSBQLLuhiH6GTZ06fURN1VrgkP8XtGduQ0J75u1VscCJPcJ0k5bE3za5lPMMDoco9WyCOftBphBzdgdgoA/s640/IMG-20171226-WA0002.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Another is a pair of blake stitched tasseled loafers which are also nice. Slightly more affordable but just as nice to look at. I personally have no problems buying blake sitched shoes if they look good, have some hand finishing on them as with care, they do last a long while (in my case).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I believe that they were bought at Takashimaya in HCM City at a 30% discount - Prices for the GYW one should be in the region of 6million VND for it and about between 3-4milllion for the blake stitched one.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Both are mighty impressive. And they're made in South East Asia where I am at. It goes to show that quality can be made anywhere in the world. You just got to know where to look for it.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I attended the official opening of the Zeiss Vision Center located at the Pavilion KL shopping centre here in downtown Kuala Lumpur a few days ago. If you are not aware, Carl Zeiss Vision is a market leader in the field of optics and lenses. You will find the Zeiss products in cameras too and they have been at making precision glass for a very, very long time.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This first state-of- the-art ZEISS VISION CENTER in Malaysia is the second market in Southeast Asia to introduce this hugely successful global concept after Indonesia. There are currently two such centers in the Klang Valley, located at Pavilion Elite, Kuala Lumpur and another one at DC Mall at Pusat Bandar Damansara. Both are owned and operated by Eyez Optometry (M) Sdn Bhd.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The center also has various other products in terms of eyeware. From Zeiss lenses like the DriveSafe lenses , spectacle frames, contact lenses and other items as well as very proper equipment to test customer's eyes. Do note that they sell a varied number of products to cater many needs. Not just Zeiss.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The equipment that would make the experience of visiting and purchasing eyeware from the Zeiss Vision Center includes the i.Profiler® PLUS by ZEISS. This equipment generates an in-depth profile of your sight: and will virtually create a customer's personal eye map. Zeiss claims that since the effectiveness of lenses changes according to the light, it analyses your eyes’ performance in both daylight and darker conditions and align the results with your prescription. The system takes 1,500 measurements per eye. Together with parameters provided by additional tests, this information helps accurately determine and define the strength of your ZEISS lenses. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCto1MHsNteNOkg90uQ2W2JkgCW7tMNJgSEs-XktjACVWBJrQbTOvYinCB2h05S792z3Br1DTGhC8zggE7mGAMIRLCHCEcYf_6fa2XG29xu6i7coHS1Lz1XtljmR6BevV9NCP0DmM5cfg/s1600/ZEISS+SEA+MD+Ven+Raman+%2528R%2529+showing+one+of+ZEISS%2527+proprietary+tools+%255BHDTV+%25281080%2529%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCto1MHsNteNOkg90uQ2W2JkgCW7tMNJgSEs-XktjACVWBJrQbTOvYinCB2h05S792z3Br1DTGhC8zggE7mGAMIRLCHCEcYf_6fa2XG29xu6i7coHS1Lz1XtljmR6BevV9NCP0DmM5cfg/s640/ZEISS+SEA+MD+Ven+Raman+%2528R%2529+showing+one+of+ZEISS%2527+proprietary+tools+%255BHDTV+%25281080%2529%255D.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Then whilst using i.Scription® Technology by ZEISS, we then create a prescription to 1/100th of a dioptre that is perfectly in step with your needs.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Another piece of equipment is the i.Terminal 2 by ZEISS. This helps determine the exact position of your lenses within the frame, calculated to 1/10th of a millimetre. This unique centration process guarantees 100-per- cent performance from ZEISS precision lenses. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">A lot of mumbo jumbo if you do not wear glasses, or even if you wear glasses as you just need to know that the prescription glasses you buy make you see clearly.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So if that is the case, think of the Zeiss Vision Center as a place where they can make proper prescription glasses or prescribe the correct contact lenses for you. Since it is situated in a very strategic, slightly upscale and prime shopping district, do expect the shopping experience to be slightly better than the usual. </span></div>

<br />
Kuala Lumpur, November 21, 2017 – The world leader in optics and optoelectronics, Carl Zeiss<br />
Vision, has officially opened its state-of- the-art ZEISS VISION CENTER in Malaysia.<br />
<br />
Malaysia is the second market in Southeast Asia to introduce this hugely successful global concept<br />
after Indonesia. There are currently two such centers in the Klang Valley, located at Pavilion Elite,<br />
Kuala Lumpur and DC Mall at Pusat Bandar Damansara. Both are owned and operated by Eyez<br />
Optometry (M) Sdn Bhd.<br />
<br />
With a clear focus on the branded segment of the market, Carl Zeiss Vision (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd<br />
targets to open a total of 10 ZEISS VISION CENTERS throughout Malaysia within the next five<br />
years.<br />
<br />
Speaking at the official opening of the flagship ZEISS VISION CENTER at Pavilion Elite Kuala<br />
Lumpur, ZEISS Southeast Asia Managing Director, Ven Raman, said that Malaysia was a very<br />
important market with strong growth potential, driven by innovative new products and higher<br />
demand for branded lenses from consumers.<br />
<br />
“The prevalence of digital devices and the high rate of usage across all age groups and segments of<br />
today’s society certainly have a negative impact on eye health. Malaysian digital consumers are<br />
spending an average of almost 14 hours a day on digital devices 1 , which leads to rising demand for<br />
vision care products. However, most consumers still have very little insights into the quality and<br />
value of their eyewear, especially lenses,” he said.<br />
<br />
ZEISS VISION CENTER aims to change that by encouraging discerning customers to be part of an<br />
informed decision making process and involving them from the start in the ultimate, step-by- step<br />
journey to bespoke lens solutions that improve their quality of life.<br />
In conjunction with the official opening, Carl Zeiss Vision Malaysia announced the sponsorship of<br />
eye examination and eyewear worth RM50,000 for under-privileged children from charitable homes<br />
in the Klang Valley.<br />
<br />
The ZEISS VISION CENTER concept differentiates itself by offering an integrated solution that<br />
combines the most innovative instruments, latest technology and products that cater to every need –<br />
all from ZEISS – in a modern yet welcoming environment that reflects the brand’s premium<br />
positioning.<br />
At the core of the ZEISS Experience is a comprehensive vision analysis that provides maximum and<br />
precise insight into a customer’s needs.<br />
<br />
This multi-stage assessment takes into account the customer’s visual needs, precise eye map, eye<br />
health, visual performance, frame selection and tailor-made lenses that are carefully adjusted to<br />
perfectly fit the face shape.<br />
Before any measurements or tests are taken, trained optometrists would sit down with the customer<br />
to learn about his or her everyday habits and needs plus concerns and expectations. This personal<br />
consultation would help determine exactly how the new ZEISS precision lenses can be tailored to<br />
meet those parameters.<br />
<br />
INNOVATIONS BY ZEISS<br />
<br />
Some of the new technologically advanced lenses that can be found at ZEISS VISION CENTER<br />
include:<br />
1. ZEISS DriveSafe Lenses that use a combination of optimised lens design and special coating<br />
to make driving a more relaxed experience. They promise better vision in low light or bad<br />
weather and less discomfort glare for drivers who are irritated by oncoming car lights and<br />
scattered light from street lamps;<br />
2. ZEISS Digital Lenses that give you a wide, clear view of the surroundings plus an area of extra<br />
focusing power designed specifically for viewing digital devices. The benefits included easier<br />
focusing on your devices, relief from Digital Eye Strain and better clarity for all activities, all day;<br />
and<br />
3. ZEISS DuraVision BlueProtect Lenses that shields your eyes from blue-violet rays, indoors or<br />
out, that may contribute to retinal damage and macular degeneration.<br />
<br />
STATE-OF- THE-ART INSTRUMENTS AND TECHNOLOGY<br />
Every ZEISS VISION CENTER is equipped with some of the most sophisticated equipment and<br />
technology such as:<br />
1. i.Profiler® PLUS by ZEISS<br />
Generates an in-depth profile of your sight: your own personal eye map. Since the effectiveness<br />
of lenses changes according to the light, it analyses your eyes’ performance in both daylight and<br />
darker conditions and align the results with your prescription. It takes 1,500 measurements per<br />
eye. Together with parameters provided by additional tests, this information helps accurately<br />
determine and define the strength of your ZEISS lenses. Using i.Scription® Technology by<br />
ZEISS, we then create a prescription to 1/100th of a dioptre that is perfectly in step with your<br />
needs.<br />
2. i.Terminal 2 by ZEISS<br />
This helps determine the exact position of your lenses within the frame, calculated to 1/10th of a<br />
millimetre. This unique centration process guarantees 100-per- cent performance from your<br />
ZEISS precision lenses.<br />
<br />
At the ZEISS VISION CENTER, great care is taken to fit your lenses correctly, which helps avoid<br />
typical fitting errors that can reduce effectiveness by more than 40 per cent. Customers can<br />
look forward to improved, more relaxed vision.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Now this is something a little different that belongs to me. Those that collect Parker would find this one of the unique fountain pens from the renown pen maker - the Parker 61. This was a pen, when first introduced in 1956 had a tagline ' Unlike Any Pen In The World...or Any Other'. You can see it in the photograph above.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The Parker 61 was unlike any other pen at that time or even to this day. It had a different way of filling it with ink. Instead of using a plunger, pump, syringe or any mechanical method, the 61 relied on its capillary ink filling system where you immerse the unscrewed rear end of the pen into a bottle of ink and it will fill up via absorbtion and ink will go up the telfon tube. Much like a piece of cloth which absorbs liquid, this does the same. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">It was a novel way of keeping the pen relatively clean as only one point on contact with the ink well and that is then covered by screwing on the body or barrel of the pen. The tip is clean and does not have to be wiped clean like what you would normally do after refilling the pen. So it was because of this the 61 was a totally revolutionary system...that somehow did not really catch on. Surprising isn't it?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">According to reviews and from what I read, the reason why this system did not take off was the fact that the manufacturing costs for the pen was actually more expensive than the traditional ink filling systems. Furthermore, the teflon tube did require a wipe down after you dip it into ink. This was seldom done by users and somehow the excess would clog up the pen after a while. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So it was quite a waste to a novel piece of engineering. Aside from that, it also had an interesting rainbow patterned cap or cover which Parker called the 'Heirloom' series. It featured the rainbow pattern in various gold filled configurations. Some were made with the combination of two different metals and this caused a lot of production issues. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Mine is a two toned gold filled cap with a green body and is made in U.S.A. I have not much knowledge about it in terms of the exact date of manufacture (this could be a late model pen) but I must say that it is a beautiful looking pen. I had last filled it up a few years ago just to see whether it was working. It was, and needed ten or so seconds of it with its teflon tube dipped into the inkwell. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The Parker 61 was produced from 1956 to 1983. Quite a long life for a pen as unique as this. Not many must have survived here in Malaysia. Or they could be sitting in the drawer still untouched after many years.</span></div>
