Paulini Boutonnière made from pewter - Made In Malaysia with good quality at a bargain price.

I have a tendency to support local craftsmen aside from buying stuff from elsewhere. I also have a tendency to support local haberdashers too. If we don't, no one else will. Local businessmen need support so that the industry can grow and flourish. Take theBoutonnières pictured for instance.

These are made by Shah Alam based Paulini Heritage Craft. They started off as a women's accessory maker dabbling in silver and pewter. They make items that are usually worn with the ladies' Baju Kebaya (Kebaya Dress). You have the kerongsang, dokoh, belt and other items that would make a kebaya complete. They seem to be good at it as they have been doing this for at least a decade. The company has close ties with Kraftangan Malaysia (Malaysia Handicraft), a government agency that promotes arts and crafts from Malaysia.

Anyway, they actually make pins that can double as Boutonnières or lapel pins. I actually bought these two pewter flowers a while ago but I have only decided to write about it today. I have been a little bit busy these days.

One is more of a pattern, the other an orchid. The items are well made. Take a look at the rear of one of them in the photo below. The workmanship is actually pretty fine for something like this. It looks good in the sense that they are not too showy or loud. Very suitable for use during a function in the evening or a black tie event.

The thing about Paulini is that I actually bought these items at an incredible low price of around RM15 at one of the arts and craft expos at the soon to be closed down (for MRT construction) Kompleks Kraf building at Jalan Conlay. I suppose if you are interested in them you would now have to head over to their website for their contact details and email them where their dealers are located.

Quite a good buy if I might say so myself. So if you can, do support local made stuff. They can be of really good quality too.
