The weather over the past two months have been extra hot and humid. But life, errands, work and other necessities that require me to step foot outdoors must continue. So these days, if I have to take public transport I come fully equipped. It used to be just the bag and the brolly. But I have added the straw hat these days.
The hat is used for sunny days. The brolly comes out if it rains. The bag is there to hold most of my gear. Since it comes with a shoulder strap, my hands are free if it does not rain.
I think this is very appropriate. Very essential items to bring along if one commutes with public transport in this hot, humid and occasionally rainy weather.
I have mentioned about wearing a hat before but these days, the weather has made me resort to utilising or bringing both along at one time.
Hat: Two summer's old Uniqlo straw 'Panama' hat with floppy brim
Bag: A generic 'Made in Italy' leather bag with external straps for holding a rolled newspaper or an umbrella
Umbrella: Wood handle foldable telescopic Umbrella from Marks & Spencer

Hi there, I would like to apologize for straying away from the contents of your post but I'm in need of a nice pair of formal shoes. Where would you recommend for a price range of RM 200-300 ? Thank you.
Hello,
Nice formal and at RM200-300. You're basically asking for cheap and cheery if it were a car. Usually these do not really exist. Are you in the Klang Valley? If so, At the prices you want it would be glued or stuck on construction. It would not be as long lasting as a welted shoe but with maintenance will last a few years. Formal means black laceups (oxfords or balmorals not derby/bluchers). Do not buy any with long snouty and with a lot of toe spring (toe pointing upwards..should be flat)
Try TANGS at 1Utama. They should have something under RM400. Get ONLY the ones marked 'MADE IN ITALY'. They look like proper dress shoes (some of them..some are very casual) If they are on sale they would fall under your budget.
Try PLAL Store along jalan GASING, pj. They have stuck on sole shoes from Turkey at under RM400 and Loake entry level (P1 series most likely) at around RM500-600. With the Loake, you would be getting proper dress shoes that would actually last you years if you take care of it.
Try BATA at KLCC. They sell a range of MADE IN ITALY range of shoes not branded as BATA. Slightly better constructed than the usual B.A.T.A. (Buy And Throw Away) shoes. From RM299 OR RM399. Should be on a discount these days 15%.
You could go to Clarks. They may have some goodyear welted stuff for around RM369-450. As well as some glued stuff. I had a friend who used to buy Clarks often and he does not recommend if you want to keep them for years. He buys Loakes these days.
You need to see this as a long term thing. Buy a proper pair. Take care them and the extra costs pay off in the long run.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the comprehensive guide. Really appreciate it.
