Some of you who have been following this blog would remember me posting something about the shoe above. A made to order, feet measured in three places - rubber bits placed on the plastic last type to ensure the fit, half boot style nail pegs and glue triple monk strap shoe commissioned from a bootmaker in Campbell Complex, Jalan Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur. Back then the colour wasn't as layered as this.
I have no idea whether the artisans who made the shoe are still capable of coming up with something like this. Even back then I had to request a few extras and actually guide them a little in the process. Of course, back then it was lacking any real patina or tones. Well, here it is today, well, not today but a photo from a few months back on how it looks today after some polish has been added over the years.
It has come up nicely. I have used a mix of red and burgundy shoe creams and then burgundy and the occasional navy blue shoe polish to get the colour you see in the photo above. The blue polish actually adds to the dark highlights you see in the photo. Blue polish works wonders on brown, burgundy and red actually. It is one way to add more character to your shoe. Not permanent like dye though, but adequate. Here is a photo from the original post below as comparison.
I believe that these shoes have so much more character in them after a few years of use.
