Dressing for a Late Morning to Lunch Launch Event - How a Larger Man's Clothes Should Fit

I usually overdress to media launch events. When I say I overdress it's because almost no one, with the exception of the hosts or a few others would even throw on a sports jacket. I usually come dress like this.

My Style these days: Luxuriously Casual

According to someone I met at one of the events I attended I dress 'Luxuriously Casual'. I find this to be very appropriate in describing my style. No one needs to wear a jacket here but it does make a very good first impression if you do. Especially if the fit is correct. If it isn't, you are best not wearing one at all.

Malaysian Men Style Faux Pas #2: Not using a boutonniere properly

These days I've witnessed on a local entertainment programme some Malaysian artistes using a boutonniere on their jacket lapel. I've also seen a few photos of that famous bearded fella in suits wearing one too. However they are wearing it a tad bit improperly.

boutonniere is used like a lapel pin. It is a floral decoration worn by men, typically a single flower or bud and are  usually reserved for special occasions for which formal wear is standard, such as at promshomecomings, dinners, funerals, and weddings. Being easier to use, without the fear of the flower withering, a lapel pin is worn more often than flowers on business suits.

Boat Shoes - Flip-flops for the Gentleman

The thing about flip-flops, open toed sandals (slippers as most in Malaysia call 'em) is that they do not offer very good protection for one's feet with the exception of the sole. Flip-flops also offer almost no support and its soft sole could cause over-pronation or the overuse of tendons in the feet . Anyway, It isn't that I don't use flip-flops. I do use them in the bathroom, toilet and at the beach. I use them for really short distances. But if I am outdoors, in the garden or out to the neighbourhood sundry stores I wear either one of my moccassin loafers or my boat shoes.
