The Three pocket Batik Shirt

This Ready to Wear Indonesian Batik Shirt is a favourite of mine. I bought it a long time ago and it is part of my Batik shirt rotation. The photo was taken about two months ago at an afternoon lunch function at a family friend's place.

Long sleeves, slits at the side and features three patch pockets - one chest pocket and two more lower down like a Safari Jacket or a Guayabera shirt. It is worn over the trousers like how formal Batik is worn. This isn't one of those truly expensive Batik Shirts. You can tell as only the chest pocket had a matching pattern. The bottom two do not actually match the pattern if you look closely.

I still like this as it allows me the convenience of extra pockets to carry my phone and card holder without any unsightly bulges. As warm weather formal wear in Malaysia (and Indonesia) that is also practical, this three pocket Batik shirt is the one to have.

I may commission one or two more like this using Malaysian hand drawn batik but right now, I already have quite a number of Batik shirts already.

The trousers are by Marks & Spencer. Flat front, with the length altered for a slight break and width tapered slightly. - from their Collezione range in a mix of Wool, Silk and Polyester. It wears cool in hot weather. Unlike the usual stigma that arises with synthetic materials, I believe the polyester is there to strengthen the fabric (especially the silk part). It has lasted more than 4 years of use without any wear (it does not scuff between the thighs or if it does, the strength of the fabric takes the abuse) and still has that silky sheen when it was new. This pair of trousers is one of the reasons why there is a place for synthetics in classic menswear.

The shoes are Ferragamo fringe monkstraps.
